Hi,
Today I’m going to tell you something about Mielec.
Mielec is a medium-size town which is located in the south- east of Poland, by the Wisloka River. It was founded in 15th century by Jan of Mielec. It has population about 65 thousand people.
Mielec is a wonderful town. It has many old and valuable landmarks such as St. Matthew’s Church which was built in 1526 or Mark’s Church which was built in 18th century. Very important landmark here is the mansion of the Oborscy Family. It was built in 17th century. Today in his house there is the Regional Museum. Most of old landmarks in Mielec are located on The Old Town.
Mielec has also a very rich cultural life. For example there is the Folk Song and Dance Ensemble “Rzeszowiacy”. This group gave performances all over the world, represented my country in many competitions. In my school there is a very good choir, which also gave many concersts in Poland and abroad and won lots of prizes. In Mielec there is a cinema which is called “Metalowiec”. We also have two museums:in the first you can see many photos of Milec, the second is called Manor House” of Oborscy and you can see here many old exhibits. In Mielec you can also practise sports. There is a big stadium and sports hall. There are also two swimming pools, tennis court and ice rink where people can skate. In the past we had a very good football team- “Stal Mielec”. It had exellent players such as Henryk Kasperczak. Today we have a good volleyball team, which takes good places in Polish Volleyball League. The Culture Centre of Mielec is a place where many movementes take place. The most important are Artistic Group “Plastuś”and Theatrical Group “Kurtyna”.
Although Mielec isn’t very big city, many famous people were born here and spent some part of their life. For example Grzegorz Lato, very good Polish footballist, who took with his team the 3rd place during the World Cup in 1974 or Władysław Szafer who was a famous botanist and professor of Jagiellonski University.
Mielec has also a big technical potential. There is e.g. Transport Equipment Corporation “PZL- Mielec” which has very big experience in production of planes and a special and well developed Economic Zone. Mielec also offers good educational opportunities. There are 22 schools, Higher School of Economy, Business School and Foreign languages School.
Life in Mielec has pros and cons. The biggest minus of living there is lack of university and job for people. But there are also advantages of living there, e.g. the life here is cheaper than in big cities and Mielec is a safe town with low rate of crime.
That’s all for now. Please write something about your hometown, about its cultural life, landmarks, interesting places where teenagers can go in the free time.... .
Bye,
See you soon
Sebastian
