- CALMAR INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
SCHOOL HISTORY
Their school is an international private school,
and that’s why they are working with Poland. Their school
is very small. All pupils are seen and known by the teachers.
The school started in the year 1999. It is only three years
old, so everything is new and clean From the start there were
about 100 pupils. Now about 235 pupils learn in this school.
SCHOOL LOCATION & FACILITIES
The school is situated in the middle of Kalmar.
The location is very good because if they have a long break,
they can go to town to relax in a local park or by simple strolling..
CIS is a private school with really good environment.They have
two beautiful gardens and sports facilities.
The school has many small work-rooms where they can study. What
is amazing, all their classrooms are named after cities, companies
and islands. The names are: Narva, Abo, Sopot, Riga, Genua,
Rügen, Siena, Wismar, Neton, Wilmington, Deloite&Touche,
Radio Match, Paris, Berlin, London, Madrid, Kinnarp, Öland,
and Tokyo.
SCHOOL CURRICULUM
Their learning way is flexible in the form of
seminars, lectures, working in a group and individual work.
They have 22 classrooms, and the subjects they are studying
are: mathematics, English, international work, Swedish, nature
science, sport games, computer knowledge, society science, history,
foreign modern languages. In the eleventh form they study other
subjects.
According to the Swedish penpals, the teachers who are working
in this school are very good.
INTERNATIONAL PROFILE
The pupils from this class do projects in Swedish
about various European countries. This year they are doing them
about Poland, its geography, history and political system. The
teacher who is involved in this project, Mr Bogdan Wolski, is
of Polish descent.
They are doing research about a country of their choice, in
a three-step project. At the end of each year, they receive
bonuses if they’ve been working well, and have shown interest
in the project. The chosen country is studied in a culture and
social science perspective. In the senior year, two students
who have shown promise will be awarded a trip to the country
they’ve been working on. As an alternative, people from this
country can be invited to come to Sweden and see how they’re
working in CIS.
